Buying a home in New York State

On December 31, 2005 licensing of home inspectors in New York State became effective. Inspectors are now regulated by the N.Y. Department of State Division of Licensing. For more information go to www.dos.state.ny.us .

Licensed inspectors must adhere to the standards set forth by the N.Y. State Home Inspection Council and Article 12-B of the Real Property Law. This requires the inspector to carry adequate insurance to protect you, the client. The inspector is not allowed to have any financial interest in the sale of the property to be inspected. These and other provisions have been put in place to protect you, the homebuyer.
